Dibrugarh: The managing committee of Nutun Bazar Masjid, which was earlier known as Dhakai Patty Masjid, located in the heart of Dibrugarh town, has banned staying of the members of Tablighi Jamaat in the masjid complex forever.
The secretary of the Masjid Committee, Jainuddin Ahmed, while contacted, told The Sentinel that the masjid was set up in 1938 as Dhakai Patty Masjid and later after Independence was christened as Nutun Bazar Masjid (NBM). It is one of the oldest masjids in Dibrugarh. As the masjid is located at the close vicinity of the Dibrugarh Railway Station, some Jamaat members earlier stayed here for few days during their visit to the town, but with the passage of time when a number of masjids were set up at different parts of the town, the Jamaati, instead of NBM, used to stay in other masjids scattered in different parts of Dibrugarh. Ahmed further admitted that staying of Jamaati members at NBM, however, had not ceased.
However, considering the present situation arising out of COVID-19 and observing the Jamaati’s unhygienic lifestyle, the Masjid Committee has decided to ban the staying of members of Tablighi Jamaat in NBM permanently, Ahmed added.
