OBITUARY: Alaka Dutta and Prakash Hazarika

Alaka Dutta

Alaka Dutta, wife of former teacher, NCC officer and journalist Paban Dutta and a resident of Tapoban, Rupaisiding, passed away at Apollo Hospital, Guwahati on April 21 night due to renal failure. She was 69 and is survived by her husband, a son and two daughters.

As a homemaker, she offered her helping hand to her husband Paban Duuta in social works, reporting and teaching and was well appreciated by one and all for her amiable disposition. Her death cast a pall of gloom and was widely mourned by Doomdooma Press Club, Doomdooma Sakha Xahitya Xabha, Lotus Academy, among others. Her last rites were performed at Rupaisiding cremation ground on April 22.

Prakash Hazarika

Prakash Hazarika, a resident of Karatipar, breathed his last due to prolonged illness on April 22. He was 54.

Hazarika, a known social worker, sports organizer and teacher, was closely associated with many organizations of the greater Jamugurihat area. His untimely demise was widely mourned. Hazarika had represented Jamugurihat in many volleyball tournaments and brought laurels to Jamugurihat. He was also associated with the Assam Agitation. He leaves behind his wife, a son and a daughter along with a host of relatives.
