OBITUARY: Anil Kumar Gohain

Anil Kumar Gohain, a renowned educationist, writer, social worker of Tinsukia district breathed his last at a private nursing home in Dibrugarh on April 4.

Anil Kumar Gohain, a renowned educationist, writer, social worker of Tinsukia district breathed his last at a private nursing home in Dibrugarh on April 4. No sooner than the news of his death spread in Tinsukia and Chabua, people thronged his Panitola house to pay their last respects. He was 78.

Gohain, a soft-spoken teacher of high esteem, was the founder teacher of Tinsukia B Ed College and founder executive member of an environmental NGO named ‘EdEn’ and president of All Assam Mottock Sanmilan from 2011-2014. A postgraduate in History from Dibrugarh University, Anil Gohain served as subject teacher at Panitola HS School and dedicated his service for the uplift of Tinsukia College of Teachers Education (B. Ed College) for several decades. He was also president of Axam Xahitya Xabha Panitola branch and Panitola Senior Citizen Forum.

With his able leadership, he took many social organizations to glorious heights. Several organizations of the Mottock community deeply mourned the death of Anil Gohain. He leaves behind his wife, a son and three daughters, besides a host of friends and admirers.
