MORIGAON: “There is need to increase the number of people speaking the Assamese language to keep the language alive in the state. A section of Assamese people is eschewing the Assamese culture by accepting the western culture,” said former vice-president of Axam Xahitya Xabha (AXX), Mrinalini Devi while inaugurating the office of the 11th Special Annual Convention of the Axam Xahitya Xabha. It will be held next year at Barpujia along the Nagaon-Morigaon district border.

She also mentioned that a nation cannot survive without literature and culture in the society. She added, “The children of today’s generation must be taught the ancient teachings of the Ramayana and the Mahabharata, only then the Assamese society will be reformed and the AXX must take resolve to build the society.”

The main reception committee and 34 sub-committees have been formed to ensure the successful implementation of the session.

The 11th Special Annual Convention of AXX will be held at Barpujia with a budget of Rs 3 crore, said the president of the reception committee, Hemanta Kr. Deuri. The meeting was attended by Dr. Upendrajit Sharma, AXX general secretary, Devashish Sharma, Morigaon District Commissioner, and other dignitaries.
