OIL blockade by students and local organisations withdrawn in Tinsukia district

TINSUKIA: The indefinite oil blockade programme which was spearheaded by the students and few local organisations of Tinsukia district from Tuesday has been temporarily withdrawn though kept in abeyance till September 6 after Oil India Limited (OIL) authority assured the agitators of holding a tripartite meeting soon even as 8 organisations carried out the blockade programme in all oil installations in Tinsukia district from 5am to 5 pm on Tuesday.

The organisations belonging to Makum regional/ anchalik committees namely AMSU, ASSU, AJCYP, TAYP, ATTSA, BAYM, AMS and KSB locked in loggerhead with OIL and Tinsukia district administration over various demands including OIL's CSR grants.

The OIL in its request letter to the organisations urged them to withdraw the blockade against OIL and to cooperate with them in carrying out the operational activities in larger interest of economy and energy security of the State and the country while assuring to hold a tripartite meeting with Tinsukia district administration soon. Though no senior OIL official was available for comments, the student organisation informed that Atul Bora, State Agriculture Minister and Guardian Minister for Tinsukia district along with Jishnu Baruah Chief Secretary would be present in the tripartite meeting.
