DIBRUGARH: Oil India Limited has been entrusted by the Directorate General of Hydrocarbons (DGH) /Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MoP&NG) with the responsibility of Acquisition Processing & Interpretation (API) of 40,000 flight LKM of Airborne Gravity Gradiometry & Gravity Magnetics (AGG & GM) data in unappraised areas of Nagaland, Manipur, southern parts of Mizoram, North Cachar Hills, parts of Arunachal Pradesh, Cauvery, Bastar, Satpura, Spiti-Zanskar and Karewa areas.

These are areas which could not be covered by seismic campaign on account of various reasons like logistically difficult terrain, hostile environment, protected areas, and non-availability of in-principle permission for conducting seismic survey operations under National Seismic Program (NSP).

On May 27, 2023, the acquisition of the AGG & GM survey started from Jorhat air base. A second aircraft is scheduled to start acquisition from Dibrugarh airport to cover the north-eastern part of India. The OIL press communique stated that the method is a non-intrusive exploration tool with a quick turnaround time that allows for the fastest possible covering of a large region. It also offers geoscientific value for the overall evaluation of the areas covered by survey.
