OIL launches mega plantation drive in Tinsukia district

Adding momentum to the Government of India’s ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ campaign

DIBRUGARH: Adding momentum to the Government of India's 'Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav' campaign, OIL India Limited (OIL) under OIL Vasundhara launched the mega plantation drive of 2,500 saplings at Bogapani, Digboi Forest Division in the Tinsukia district. This was done as part of the 'Carbon Sequestration and Eco-restoration project' a CSR initiative of OIL towards eco-restoration of the degraded forest land under Lakhipathar range of Upper Dihing Reserved Forest (West Block) on Saturday.

Rameswar Teli, Union Minister of State, Petrolium and Gas and Labour and Employment, officially inaugurated the plantation drive in presence of OIL's green ambassador, Padma Shri Dr Jadav Payeng, TC Ranjith Ram, IFS, DFO, Digboi Forest Range, and other dignitaries.

Speaking on the occasion, Union Minister Rameswar Teli appealed the younger generation to draw inspiration from the life of Dr Payeng and his green mission of growing trees and conservation of forests. He appreciated OIL's effort through this ambitious project of planting 2.5 lakh forest tree saplings across 100 hectare of degraded forest area under Upper Dihing Reserved Forest (West Block).

Dr Payeng, who has been associated with OIL as a green ambassador also, lauded this noble initiative of mass tree sapling plantation drive taken up by OIL and invited others to follow and join in this mass movement of forestation towards increasing green cover. RCE, OIL Prasanta Borkakoty, in his speech reiterated that Digboi has one of the beautiful green forest covers in Northeast India and OIL's association with the people of Digboi dates back to over 100 years from now. He thanked the Forest Departtment, Digboi Forest Range for their cooperation and support in implementing the project.
