One killed by wild elephant in Sootea

One Punaram Basumatary (60), a resident of No 2 Kachamari village, Sootea was killed by a wild elephant on Saturday night.

JAMUGURIHAT: One Punaram Basumatary (60), a resident of No 2 Kachamari village, Sootea was killed by a wild elephant on Saturday night. Wild elephants use to come out from the adjoining area of the 6th edition of Kaziranga National Park (KNP) in search of food to the nearby villages. Kachamari, Tewaripal, Bokabil and Gorpal areas of south Sootea share a boundary with the sixth edition of KNP. On Saturday night also, a herd of wild elephants entered into No. 2 Kanchamari village and broke down many houses. One of the elephants rushed towards Punaram's house and started to break it from one side. Seeing that Punaram tried to flee from the site, but unfortunately he was confronted with the giant wild elephant and was trampled to death. A team of Sootea police reached the site at night and sent the body for postmortem.
