One killed in Baksa wild jumbo attack

Tamulpur: One person was killed by wild elephants on Tuesday night at North Guwabari village under Nagrijulinpolice outpost in the district of Baksa. The deceased person has been identified as Biren Swargiary (47) of the village North Giluwabari in the district of Baksa. According to local people, in search of food a big herd of wild elephants entered the North Guwabari village. A wild elephant, named Laden by the villagers, started to destroy many houses in the village and created terror.

The villagers left their houses and took shelter in secure places. A group of villagers tried to chase away the wild elephant with fire and by creating noise by banging utensils. But the wild elephant became aggressive and attacked the group of the villagers. The wild elephant entered the premises of the house of Biren Swargiary (47) and killed him brutally.

A team of police arrived in the village and recovered the body. Local people were angry due to alleged delayed arrival of forest personnel. People have demanded the government to protect their lives and property.
