KOKRAJHAR: Criticising the opposition party in the BTC Legislative Assembly for abstaining from the council's session for four consecutive times, the Chief Executive Member (CEM) of BTC, Pramod Boro on Monday asserted that the opposition party, Bodoland People's Front (BPF), in BTC was making a mockery of democracy as they had failed to raise the issues of the people in their respective constituencies by abstaining from the sessions of the council.
Talking to reporters in the assembly house, Pramod Boro said that it was very unfortunate in a democracy that the BPF as an opposition party in the council had failed to raise public issues by not participating in the session for four times. He said that he had not seen any opposition member till now and the general masses had lost credible representatives by choosing BPF candidates as they had totally failed to perform their role of opposition. He said that the opposition had a great role in making the government strong and effective.
"The BPF believes only in position and power. They enjoyed power for 15 years and now that they are out of power, they think they have nothing to do in the assembly session," he said, adding that instead of abstaining from the assembly sessions, the opposition could have been involved in active debate for the council's business.
On the expansion of the cabinet of Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, Boro said that the ministry would be expanded soon and they were hopeful of getting more berths.
