Orang Festival to be organized for the first time in Orang National Park

Tremendous enthusiasm has been witnessed among cross-sections of the society in and around ONPTR to organize the first Orang Festival.

MANGALDAI: Tremendous enthusiasm has been witnessed among cross-sections of the society in and around Orang National Park and Tiger Reserve (ONPTR) to organize the first Orang Festival.

With a view to showcase the local arts, crafts, music, cuisine, sightseeing and indigenous and traditional culture and sports and to organize scientific exhibition, wildlife photography, angling, night sky viewing for the first time in the area, Silbori Sports Association on Friday convened a public meeting at Prasanti Lodge complex which was attended by more than 200 prominent personalities from Orang, Dalgaon, Silbori, Kharupetia, Dhanshrighat and Koupati area.

Divisional Forest Officer of Mangaldai Wildlife Division Pradipta Barua, Officer in-charge of Dalgaon Police Station, Inspector Mano Ranjan Gogoi, Prof Homen Barua of Orang College, wildlife activist Kamal Azad, wildlife photographer Nejib Ahmed, Range Officer of ONPTR, Dibya Jyoti Deuri, DPM of ASDM, Faruk Ahmed, and Principal of Kopati Jatiya Vidyalaya, Lutan Sarkar also attended the meeting presided over by president of Silbori Sports Association, Musabirul Hoque.

Secretary of Silbori Sports Association, Abdul Malek while explaining the objective of the meeting, spoke on the need for organizing the Orang Festival to create more awareness on conservation of ONPTR with the involvement of the people of the locality and also to highlight the significance of this Park once inhabited by human population till 1900.

after threadbare discussion, the meeting unanimously decided to organize the first Orang Festival in the first week of February of 2023.

For the smooth management of the festival, a reception committee has been formed with wildlife activist and journalist Bhargab Kr Das as president, DPM of ASDM, Faruk Ahmed as working president, wildlife activist of repute, Kamal Azad and writer and social activist Musabirul Hoque as the joint secretaries.

The meeting also decided to nominate minister-cum-Dhekiajuli legislator Ashok Singhal and Mangaldai Parliamentarian Dilip Saikia as the chief patrons, Dalgaon legislator Majibar Rahman, Executive Member of BTC Dr Nilut Swargiary, Mazbat legislator Charan Boro, Borsola legislator Ganesh Limbu as Patrons, Deputy Commissioner of Darrang, Pranab Kumar Sarma and Superintendent of Police Prasanta Saikia as chief advisers and DFO of Mangaldai Wildlife Division, as the adviser.

The meeting has also appealed to all sections of the society to extend all cooperation and suggestions to make the Orang Festival a grand success.
