Orang National Park to reopen on Nov 1

After being shut down for almost 8 months, the park will reopen for the visitors on November 1.

Orang: Located in the northern bank of the river Brahmaputra, Rajiv Gandhi Orang National Park and Tiger Reserve in Darrang district will reopen for visitors from November 1. In a press communique, the Divisional Forest Officer (DFO), Wildlife, Mangaldai Division informed on Tuesday.

Following the nationwide lockdown, the national park was closed since March. Also known as the mini Kaziranga, the park covers an area of about 79 square kilometres. The park is home to several wildlife species, which needs to be conserved like the wild elephant, buffalo, hog deer, pygmy hog and Bengal florican. As recorded in 2018, the park has 101 numbers of one-horned rhino and 21 Royal Bengal Tigers.

The park was first established in 1985 as a sanctuary but was later declared as a national park in 1999.

Earlier in the month, Manas National Park reopened on October 2. Kaziranga National Park reopened today for the visitors.
