Biswanath Chariali: An organic farm named ‘Pabhoi Jaivik Farm’ was inaugurated recently at Mijikajan, around 15 km from here, in Biswanath district.
The farm has been set up by Pabhoi Organic Growers’ Cooperative Society’, a joint venture of 31 young farmers of Biswanath Chariali, with a view to enhancing organic farming among rural people. Several varieties of vegetables and fruits, including brinjal, potato, gourd, peas, beans, ridged gourd, banana, lemons and chilly have been produced in a land of around 60 bighas. The farm is reportedly the first and only registered organic cooperative society in Assam. It was formally inaugurated by eminent science writer Khiradhar Baruah on Sunday in the presence of veteran scribe Mrinal Talukdar.
Inaugurating the farm, Baruah expressed the hope that it would be able to give a new look to modern agriculture in a scientific way and also to cater to the demand of vegetables and fruits in the market. The programme was also attended by Cooperative Deputy Registrar Pradeep Saikia.
