Orientation workshop on Right to Information Act held in districts of Barak Valley

An orientation workshop on the Right to Information Act was held on Saturday for State Public Information Officers of different government departments

SILCHAR: An orientation workshop on the Right to Information Act was held on Saturday for State Public Information Officers of different government departments of all the three districts of Barak Valley. Organized by the Assam Information Commission in collaboration with the Cachar district administration, State Information Commissioners Kanak Chandra Sarma and Dr Samudra Gupta Kashyap were present as resource persons.

Dr Kashyap, in his presentation, gave an overview of the RTI Act 2005 and explained its significance in promoting transparency and accountability, creating an informed citizenry and also to contain corruption. State Information Commissioner, Sarma on the other hand stressed on timely disposal of RTI applications and better maintenance of records, and also answered to various queries of the participating officers. Sarma also asked the SPIOs to remain vigilant against attempts to misuse the RTI Act by certain persons, stated a press release.
