BARPETA/PATHSALA: The flood situation in Barpeta district remains grim. On Saturday, the embankment of Pahumara River was breached at Gahinpara and Kalorguri and many villages of Bajali subdivision were inundated.

Due to incessant rain and release of excess water of Kurichhu Hydropower Plant, Bhutan, the rivers have overflowed. Gahinpara, Muguria and Kenduguri villages have been submerged while Puthimari, Hokertup and Ballimari villages face flood threat. The Kordoiguri- Bamakhata connecting PWD road of Bajali subdivision has been flooded. Around 250 metre of the Pahala to Simlaguri road in between Kenduguri and Gahinpara has also been submerged.

Families have been displaced and residential buildings have been damaged. Some power supply cables and posts have also been damaged in the flood. Domestic animals have been shifted to safer places. The SDO (C ) Bajali arrived at the spot to take stock of the situation. NDRF team has been engaged in rescue work in Kalorguri and Gahinpara.

Meanwhile, the water of River kaldia has submerged new areas in Akaya, Nityananda, Patacharkuchi, Helana and Bargandubi. This time the water flowed through the already broken portions of the last flood. In the last flood, the Kaldia breached the dyke in six places.
