Palashbari MLA Hemanga Thakuriya inaugurates new arch gate of Rangamati Namghar

PALASBARI: The newly-constructed main entrance arch of the Namghar of Rangamati branch of Srimanta Sankardev Sangha in Palashbari was officially inaugurated by Palashbari MLA Hemanga Thakuriya on Tuesday. The arch was built in memory of late Hiren Chandra Das, a prominent social worker and retired Assistant Executive Engineer.

The 70th birth anniversary of late Hiren Chandra Das, a devoted servant of Srimanta Sankardev Sangha, was celebrated with a day-long programme of Nam Prasang, Bhagavat Path, lantern lighting, tree planting etc. The president of Sankardev Sangha Ramni Kalita, secretary Suren Kalita, Electronic and Print Media Forum South Kamrup secretary Niren Ch Mali, South Kamrup Satra Sangha secretary and primary branch president Dinesh Kalita planted trees at the premises of Rangamati Namghar. The religious programme was conducted by Radhika Ram Das.

The memorial meet was presided over by social worker Kanak Das. Palasbari MLA Hemanga Thakuriya, member of the Sangha Anil Ch Kalita and many other dignitaries discussed the life of Hiren Chandra Das and his contribution to education and religion.

Das, who had a reputation as an honest and efficient officer while working as an engineer in the irrigation department, passed away on May 18.
