SILCHAR: In a wee hour operation on Thursday, Patharkandi police had seized huge consignment of Burmese supari from a mini truck coming from Tripura. Market price of the smuggled consignment would not be less than Rs 10 lakh. Two persons were apprehended by the police.

Sources said, the Burmese supari syndicate now had changed its usual route as the vehicle carrying the consignment first reaches Damcherra in North Tripura from Mamith in Mizoram and then it enters Karimganj.

Acting on confirmed information, Patharkandi police on Thursday early morning stopped the mini truck bearing number TR-05-C-1764 and seized the smuggled consignment. Patharkandi OC Samarjit Basumatari said, "Altogether 48 bags were seized. Police arrested Kamaluddin and Zakir Hussain, both from Kathalitali in Patharkandi."
