BAKSA: Peace and progress have replaced sounds of guns in BTR (Bodoland Territorial Region). There will be development here, said Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma while attending an election meeting of the BJP-AGP-UPPL nominee Jallen Daimary. The poll meet was held on Motanga field of Tamulpur subdivision within Tamulpur Assembly constituency on Sunday.
Chief Minister Sarma further said, "We have lost Tamulpur MLA Leho Ram Boro prematurely. May his soul rest in peace." Offering his tribute to Leho Ram Boro, the Chief Minister said, "Today's meeting is not an election meeting, it is a meeting to offer tribute to late Boro. The Chief Minister also said that he could not meet the people of Tamulpur due to the pandemic. "Today, I have got the opportunity to meet you," he added.
He said, "The bye election to Tamulpur was held again after 58th Tamulpur assembly constituency MLA Leho Ram Boro died prematurely in the Covid. We have fielded Jolen Daimary. When the masses vote for a young leader -- Jolen Daimary – it will ensure that you have supported the BJP, AGP, UPPL."
Taking a dig at the Congress candidate from Tamulpur constituency, the Chief Minister said that the Congress candidate does not know the boundary of Tamulpur. But I have come to Tamulpur and got to know the boundaries of Tamulpur. Permanent peace has returned to BTR. The gun culture is over. There is communal harmony in BTR now. Highlighting the various development works, he spoke of the construction of crossings on the Pagaldia River in Tamulpur subdivision, setting up of the medical college hospital in Tamulpur, along with other development projects. The Chief Minister said that by 2022, the movement of Tamulpur-Jartaluk-Muslimpur link road on Pagaldia river will be accessible. A new bridge will be built on Pagaldia River in Kumarikata's Khairani. Now that Tamulpur is also a district. People from Barama, and Chapaguri will be able to visit the Tamulpur Medical College by crossing the bridge. Sarma also said that the development process will take up pace in Tamulpur.
Chief Minister Sarma further said, "It has been decided to give equal status to the Gorkhas in BTR. All issues are being solved one by one in the BTR as well as across Assam. Dr Sharma also announced that the benefits of women of microfinance loans, 'Krishi Sanman Nidhi' will be extended from November onwards. He added,"The Food Corporation of India will buy paddy at the rate of Rs 1,900 per quintal. The Chief Minister Taking a dig at the Congress candidate, Sarma said, "The Congress candidate is playing football with no goal keeper."
UPPL leader Bipul Basumtari delivered the welcome speech at the election meeting. The meeting was chaired by UPPL candidate Jalen Daimary's election management committee president Dharmnarayan Das. BJP president Bhabesh Kalita, Ministers Ranjit Dass and U G Brahma also addressed the gathering. Leaders from the UPPL, AGP, BJP along with many BTC EMs, MCLAs, MLAs from various LAC graced the meeting. They also appealed to the people to cast their votes in favour of Jolen Daimary.
