Foot-over bridge at Maibang Railway Station
A CORRESPONDENT
HAFLONG: People of Maibang, the capital city of the ancient Dimasa kingdom and also a subdivisional headquarter, are peeved over the 'indifferent' attitude of the Railway authority as the Railways is yet to construct a much-needed foot-over bridge at Maibang Railway station.
The people of Maibang in general and some student organizations like All Dimasa Students' Union in particular, have been approaching the Railway authority to solve issues like reservation facility at Maibang Station, stoppage of Kanchanjangha Express, foot-over bridge and improvement of the existing over bridge.
People said that they had hoped the BG conversion of Lumding-Silchar would be a boon for them but due to the Railway's apathy, railway services after the BG conversion were not satisfactory. Some others opined that metre gauge (MG) was better than broad gauge (BG) as BG had not help the people of Dima Hasao who have contributed a lot for the BG conversion.
Student leader Mairing Johori said, "We have been approaching the Railways since long with few genuine issues related to Railway amenities and we have also submitted memoranda eight times right from the Railway Ministry to the Divisional Railway Manager Lumding, but no action has been taken by the Railway authority."
Reminding about several agitations staged in the past at Maibang, he said that the Railway authority should not test people's tolerance anymore as people were fed up of the Railway authority's dilly-dallying tactics. Expressing concern, Johori said that due to such negligence, several human lives had been lost in absence of foot-over bridge at Maibang station.
