TANGLA: Pointing fingers at the practice of fuel adulteration in petrol bunks, the number of vehicles getting damaged owing to the poor quality of petrol and diesel is on the rise in the Tangla town of Udalguri district. The citizens are seriously concerned about the rampant adulteration of petroleum products.

A local journalist who owns a Royal Enfield bike had a horrible experience with adulterated petrol of a IOCL depot. "My bike's petrol tank was empty. When I filled two litres of petrol, the bike failed to start. Later when I took the bike to a mechanic, he told me that the engine malfunctioned due to the adulterated petrol," said the journalist. Many residents reported change in colour and smell of petrol and diesel as the indicator of adulteration.

Previously, the officials of the metereology department, after complaints, took samples from the depot but the report allegedly did not come. Such malpractices continue to hound citizens. The residents of Tangla town in Udalguri district have demanded magisterial inquiry into the allegations of adulteration of petrol and diesel by oil depots of the town.
