LAKHIMPUR: The grand celebration of Phat Bihu concluded on Sunday, leaving the Mohguli Chapori on the bank of River Charikoria in Dhakuakhana subdivision of Lakhimpur district silent.
The programmes of the concluding day began with a colourful cultural procession wherein various tribes and communities of the State as well as neighbouring State of Arunachal Pradesh showcased the rich manifestations of their culture. Through the procession, the harmony, unity and integrity of the State were glorified. It was inaugurated by popular cine actress Rimpi Das.
Then the open session commenced with Phat Bihu Samiti president Pradip Chamuah in the chair. Renowned story-teller Monoj Kumar Goswami inaugurated the programme. A galaxy of renowned personalities who have contributed much to cultural, literal, spiritual and other arenas of State, took part in the event. Prominent literary figure, Padadhikar of Srimanta Sankaradeva Sangha, Kamala Kanta Gogoi took part in the event as the chief guest. Bihu researcher Mukti Nath Borgohain graced the occasion as appointed speaker. Social activist and former Vice-Principal of Cotton College, Deven Dutta, cine director Reema Das and the Director of Culture, Bornali Sarmah attended as guests of honour.
On the other hand, a massive plantation drive, husori competition of aged people of various ethnic communities, gamosa competition, Mukali Bihu competition was held on the second day of the festival. In addition, over 100 cultural teams representing the communities of the State presented Bihu in the festival during the three days.
The annual publication of Phat Bihu, Bihuwan was released by Dr Jyoti Prashad Saikia, Professor of Sociology, Dibrugarh University. During the last three days, the people from different parts of the State thronged the permanent venue of the Phat at Mohghuli Chapori.
