Piggery and goatery training programme concludes at RHAC Tourist Lodge in Boko

BOKO: The Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council (RHAC) and Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine, Government of Assam, jointly conducted a five-day long farming training programme on piggery and goatery at RHAC Tourist Lodge in Boko from August 12 to August 17.

The training was conducted for the members of eight self-help groups in the RHAC area of the Kamrup district. The training camp was presided over by Executive Member of RHAC, Sumit Rabha. Sumit Rabha said that by giving financial support from the 2022-23 financial year of RHAC, the training programme was held successfully.

The closing ceremony of the training camp was attended by Chief Executive Member of Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council, Tankeswar Rabha as the chief guest. A meeting was held with the trainees at the closing ceremony. During the meeting certificates were distributed to the trainees and 25 piglets and goats to eight self-help groups participating in the farming training.

The event was attended by RHAC vice-chairman Ramakant Rabha, Executive Members of the Council, Nitesh Rabha Patgiri, Aditya Rabha, Rashmi Rabha, and others.

Dr Guru Talukdar delivered the welcome speech at the closing ceremony. He suggested in his speech that villagers can become financially prosperous by rearing goats or pigs. In addition, scientific methods are very helpful in rearing pigs or goats free from various diseases and this can increase the breeding of pigs or goats.

When the training camp was inaugurated, Sumit Rabha in his speech said that 16 self-help groups in Kamrup and Goalpara districts under Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council area will be distributed pig and goat calves along with a house for husbandry and training. He also said the self-help groups have opened 134 farms in Goalpara district and 132 farms in Kamrup district with the assistance of the Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council from FY 2012-13 to FY 2022-23, In addition, 11 cattle farms and four goat farms have been opened in the Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council area.

At the closing ceremony, RHAC Executive Member Jyotika Rabha said that women can become economically strong by raising pigs or goats on a commercial basis. RHAC CEM Tankeswar Rabha, who was the chief guest, said that the training would be a success if the trainees could use it to improve their lives in the future.
