BORJHAR: On World Environment Day, tree plantation drive was organized at all the airports and in the north-eastern region, including Guwahati, Dibrugarh, Imphal, Agartala, Shillong, Silchar, Jorhat, Lilabari and Tezu.

Employees of Airports Authority of India, CISF personnel, airline representatives, State forest department's officials and related stakeholders carried out the plantation drive on Friday. Saplings of trees, including white jamun, litchi, mango, amla and coconut were planted in the colony, office premises, airport garden and passenger open green area of AAI.

Airports Directors of all the airports actively led the plantation campaign and celebrated the day with great enthusiasm. AAI in North East Region has already targeted to plant more than one lakh tree sapling in and around the airport establishments starting March 2020, a green initiative which was launched by Arvind Singh, Chairman of AAI, under the initiative taken by Sanjeev Jindal, Regional Executive Director, AAI. Already, the saplings of trees are being planted by chief guests on various special occasions and celebrations at AAI airports.

On the other hand, Kamrup rural District Transport officer Gautam Das on Friday distributed tree saplings to media persons, drivers and public at the Guwahati LGBI Airport premises on the occasion of World Environmental Day. He also distributed hand sanitizers and face masks to media persons. During the programme, DTO Gautam Das urged the public to do tree plantation.
