DIBRUGARH: The historical Assam Medical College is completing its 75 years of existence, the Institution is celebrating its Platinum Jubilee with a yearlong programme culminating on November 3 with the participation of all the students, staff, alumni and well wishers of this glorious institution. In continuation of celebration of Platinum Jubilee, various events are being organized on November 1, 2and 3 at the AMC campus. Apart from other events, track and field and various sports events were organised on the first day.
Internationally acclaimed athlete, Arjuna awardee Hima Das was felicitated at the Platinum Jubilee Mainstage "Beehive" at AMC playground on Tuesday. Hima Das inaugurated the newly built volley ball court at the playground after the felicitation programme.
The lighting of the olympic flame will be done by Hima Das on Wednesday at the AMC main Playground. "Various cultural programmes will be organized during the three-day programme. We are very much happy because everybody is participating in the programme," said an organizer.
Assam Medical College, Dibrugarh is one of the premier and oldest medical institutes of the NE region of India. British Philanthropist Sir John Berry White, a retired brigadier of British army and later the civil surgeon of the erstwhile Lakhimpur district in 1870, contributed his lifetime earning of Rupees Fifty Thousand (present day valuation is more than 50 million of rupees) to establish his brainchild "Berry White Medical School" in 1900 AD.
