PM Modi, Amit Shah Extend Magh Bihu Greetings

Like Lohri and Makar Sankranti, Magh Bihu or Bhogali Bihu also marks the end of cold and harsh winter months, people erect makeshift huts called Meji

GUWAHATI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah extended Magh Bihu greetings to the people of the state.

PM Modi in a tweet wrote, "Magh Bihu wishes to everyone. May the coming times be filled with happiness. With the blessings of Almighty may there be brotherhood and wellness all around."

Meanwhile, Union Home Minister Amit Shah also wished the people of Assam on the occasion of Magh Bihu. The Minister also tweeted in Assamese saying, "I wish my heartfelt greetings to the people of Assam on Magh Bihu. May Maa Kamakhya bless everyone's lives with joy, happiness and prosperity."

On the other hand, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to visit Assam on January 23.

"We have prepared a roadmap. PM Modi is likely to visit Assam on January 23," said Himanta Biswa Sarma.

While union home minister Amit Shah will also address rallies at Kokrajhar and Nalbari on January 24.

Earlier this month, BJP's national president, JP Nadda, launched party's poll campaign in the state with "Vijay Sankalp" rally at the police parade ground in Silchar.

Union Cabinet Minister for Textiles and Women & Child Development, Smriti Z Irani wrote, "Greetings to people of Assam on the auspicious occasion of Magh Bihu. Prayers for peace, prosperity and good health for all."

Among the Bollywood stars, Hrithik Roshan wrote, "Happy Lohri, Makar Sankranti, Pongal & Magh Bihu. May the warmth of these festivities bring you and your loved ones lots of love, good health, peace and prosperity."

This month will also witness the fundraising campaign to raise funds for the construction of Ram Mandir in Uttar Pradesh's Ayodhya (Believed to be the birthplace of Lord Ram) to begin in Assam from January 15 and will continue till 30.

This was informed by Dr Ram Umesh Chakraborty, general secretary of Ram Mandir Nidhi Samarpan Samiti of Assam in a press conference held on Tuesday at Dispur Press Club in Guwahati. Dr Ram Umesh Chakraborty said, "The campaign will be start From January 15 ( upcoming Makar Sankranti) to February 27 (Magh Purnima) across the country.

The campaign will be conducted in every village in Assam which will cover around 16,708 villages in 60 wards of Guwahati city.
