"Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji talked to me over phone and enquired about important issues faced by Assam -- our fight against COVID19, prevailing flood situation and erosion, and the challenge of landslide. He assured all necessary support from the Centre", Sonowal tweeted.

Modi, via a tweet, also informed that he had talked to Sonowal in the wake of flooding and landslides in parts of the state. Assured all possible support from the Centre to help those affected.

Assam is in the grip of a destructive spate of floods that have affected more than 16 lakh people, with the death toll has already risen to 34. Even as several rivers have started flowing above danger levels, as many as 2,053 villages across 22 are affected due to the ongoing floods across the state. Due to the fury of floods this year, nearly 13,000 people are taking shelter in relief camps operated by the Government.

Meanwhile, Assam Chief Secretary Kumar Sanjay Krishna has said that the Government is constantly monitoring the flood situation, as the situation in Assam continues to grow grimmer by the day. The floodwaters have also reached the national parks such as Kaziranga and Orang national parks, where camps have been severely affected. At the same time, landslides precipitated by heavy rainfall has added to the overall malaise in the state.
