GUWAHATI: Speaking on the occasion of the inauguration of 'Asom Mala, Prime Minister Narendra Modi voiced happiness over the work done in the last five years in the Assam government's health and public work departments. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday laid the foundation stones of two hospitals, in a virtual mode, and launched the 'Asom Mala' — a programme to upgrade the State highways and the major district roads — at Bhotpara Pathar, Dhekiajuli in Sonitpur district.

Prime Minister Modi, during the course of his inaugural speech addressed Assam Health, Education, and Finance Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, as "Himanta Bhai".

Praising the good work done in the health area of the state, Prime Minister Modi said that the construction of new hospitals and the running of good hospitals would benefit the people, as they would not require to wait for long periods of time to avail health care. He said, "Five years ago, it was only a dream to have a good Hospital in the hinterland of Assam. A good hospital, good treatment means waiting for hours and hours and having a lot of problems. Repeatedly praying to God for no medical emergency became a daily occurrence for people in many parts of Assam. But today, I see that this problem is now moving towards a speedy solution. That difference can be easily seen and felt. And it's only because of the tireless work of the government."

The Prime Minister also added that the incumbent central government has been continuously working towards the betterment and development of Assam. "Assam is also moving forward like other states of the country in the path of development. In the same way, Assam has made great strides the construction of roads and bridges in the last few years," said PM Modi.

Prime Minister Modi also added that he hopes that the 'Asom Mala' project will provide a network of wide roads and communication systems to all the villages and modern cities of Assam.
