KOKRAJHAR: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday virtually inaugurated Kokrajhar Cancer Centre from Dibrugarh along with Barpeta, Darrang, Jorhat, Lakhimpur and Tezpur Cancer Centres, after physically inaugurating the Dibrugarh Cancer Centre in the presence of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma, Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and a host of dignitaries.

In Kokrajhar district, attending as chief guest at the inaugural function of Kokrajhar Cancer Centre, Chief Executive Member ( CEM) of Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC), Pramod Boro and other dignitaries, including Rajya Sabha MP Rwngwra Narzary, Speaker of BTCLA, Katiram Boro and BTC deputy CEM Gabinda Basumatary witnessed the programme though video conferencing.

Addressing the gathering, on behalf of the people of BTC, Pramod Boro thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Ratan Tata for construction of the Cancer Centre at Kokrajhar. He hoped that this cancer centre would help the public for early diagnosis of cancer and low-cost treatment as due to lack of cancer care facilities, most of the cancer patients had to travel outside of the State causing immense financial and mental hardships. Kokrajhar Cancer Centre will be equipped with the latest state-of-the-art equipment with capacity to accommodate 43 patients at a time. Later, BTC CEM Pramod Boro inaugurated the cancer care building.
