PNGB Model College enrolls first batch of students in Tinsukia district

Kakopathar in Tinsukia district leaped a step forward in higher education after the government sponsored Padmanath Gohain Baruah (PNGB) Model College at Kopahtoli Dirak enrolled the first batch of students in December and classes resumed on December 22.

TINSUKIA: Kakopathar in Tinsukia district leaped a step forward in higher education after the government sponsored Padmanath Gohain Baruah (PNGB) Model College at Kopahtoli Dirak enrolled the first batch of students in December and classes resumed on December 22. The foundation stone of the college was laid by State Education Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma on November 4, 2017.

In an induction programme held on Monday with newly-appointed founder Principal Thanuram Mazinder in the chair, Suren Neog in his introductory speech informed that 20 faculty members, including librarian, had been appointed and 174 students had enrolled in this session. While 137 students were admitted in the first semester of degree course, 37 took admission in HS classes. The college has started Major courses in six subjects-Assamese, English, Economics, Political Science, Education and Sociology, Neog elaborated.

The programme was attended by representatives of local Mottock and Moran communities, Kopahtoli Yubak Sangha, besides local journalists, faculty members and students and was addressed by president of the Zilla Parishad, Lolit Moran, journalists Manuranjan Moran and Dwipen Lohakar, among others. Lolit Moran also announced that he would extend financial grant of Rs 6 lakh from the Zilla Parishad for potable drinking water.
