Poacher arrested with elephant ivory in Morigaon district

MORIGAON: In a significant development, one poacher was arrested with an elephant ivory by a team of forest personnel led by the Range Forest Officer of Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary at Tengaguri, Laharighat, Morigaon district on Friday. On the basis of an input received from a source, a team consisting of eight forest personnel led by the Range Forest Officer Nayan Jyoti Das of Pobitora Wild Life Sanctuary spotted the poacher at Tengaguri and was immediately caught at around 6 am. He has been identified as Asmot Ali (62).

The poacher is the son of Late Mobarak Hussain of Tengaguri village under Laharighat Revenue Circle. The forest personnel seized the elephant ivory from his possession. Later the poacher was brought to the range office and was kept in the custody of Pobitora Wild Life Sanctunary. The poacher confessed his involvement in the crime and was arrested under the provision of Wild Life Protection Act -1972. As per the information by the Pobitora range officer, the accused confessed that he had sold some pieces of the animal articles to various persons.
