JAGIROAD: State Forest and Environment Minister ParimalSuklabaidya on Tuesday formally declared reopening of the Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary at Mayong near here.
In a meeting held in this connection, the Principal Chief Conservator of Forest (PCCF) Amrit Shah delivered the welcome speech. He said that the sanctuary was closed for tourists for the last eight months because of the COVID-19 pandemic, CAA agitation and floods. Now it was open again for domestic and foreign tourists.
Assam Tourism Development Corporation (ATDC) chairman JayantaMallaBaruah sought cooperation from all for development of the tourism sector. Local MLA and ministerPiyushHazarika expressed gratitude to the forest department for reopening of sanctuary. He called upon the tourists to follow COVID protocol while visiting Pobitora. The session was also graced by Morigaon Deputy Commissioner Lina Das, Superintendent of Police Nanda Singh Borkala, and other dignitaries.
