Police crackdown on cattle smugglers, traffickers, drug peddlers

Dhubri police launched crackdown on crime and illegal activities in 2021 that led to seizure of as many as 2,085 cattle heads along with arresting 92 cattle smugglers, and seized 44 trucks and other vehicles. This year too, there has been no let up.

DHUBRI: Dhubri police launched crackdown on crime and illegal activities in 2021 that led to seizure of as many as 2,085 cattle heads along with arresting 92 cattle smugglers, and seized 44 trucks and other vehicles. This year too, there has been no let up.

During, 2021, police special squad seized 1,20,287 sleeping capsules, 17,358 bottles of cough syrup and put 256 drug peddlers behind the bars. Apart from these, police also seized 289 grams of cocaine, 725 mg brown sugar, 15 gram heroin, 128 kg ganja,182 injection syringes, and recovered cash amounting to Rs 7,09,710 from the possession of drug peddlers.

Similarly, police, through a well-knit intelligence network, went all out against fake Indian currency rackets, raided in various parts of the district on the basis of specific information and seized Rs 5,78,600 fake Indian currency notes and rounded up 20 racketeers.

Crusade against human trafficking by Dhubri police led to rescue of girls from various States. Dhubri Superintendent of Police, Abhijit Gaurav, having seen the spree of kidnapping of girls from different places of Dhubri district, swung into action and rescued five girls from various parts of the country recently.

When contacted by The Sentinel, Dhubri Superintendent of Police, Abhijit Gaurav said that there would be more raids to unearth the illegal activities in days to come. "The law of the land should be obeyed and whoever breaks the law will not be spared. I am here to maintain law and order," he said.
