Police Recover Stolen Vehicle in Mariani, 2 Car Thieves Arrested

The police are taking the necessary action to find other people involved in the crime.

MARIANI: In a success against interstate car theft racket, Assam Police was able to recover a stolen vehicle and apprehend two car thieves.

According to the police, a Bolero Pickup was stolen from Kamarbandha and was recovered in Mariani by a police team. They also mentioned that the vehicle was on its way to be sold in the neighbouring state of Nagaland when it was intercepted by Mariani police. After a chase, the police team was able to stop the fleeing vehicle at Nizarapar in Mariani.

The identities of the two car thieves apprehended by the police are Ritupan Gogoi from Ladoigarh Chatai Gharfolia village and Paresh Bora of the Titabor Sesa Satra number 1 Moran village. The police are taking the necessary action to find other people involved in the crime.

In another news from Mariani, a dead body was recovered under mysterious circumstances from the Chatai Tea Estate. The dead body was found in a hanging position inside a house in line number 9 of the tea estate. It was later identified as one Radhe Bhumij aged 28 years. The local people have expressed suspicion that someone might have killed the person and hanged his body in the house. The police have started an investigation regarding the matter.

A one-horned rhino created panic among locals after it entered a village near Mariani in the Jorhat district on Wednesday morning. According to officials, the local villagers of Nakachari Dohutia village spotted the rhino straying in a paddy field on Wednesday morning, after which forest officials were informed. Animesh Kalita, Forest Range Officer of Mariani, said that the rhino has taken shelter at a canal.

“Today morning, some villagers spotted the rhino and informed us. We have informed higher authorities and a team from Assam State Zoo will come to rescue the big animal,” he said.
