DHUBRI: All political parties co-ordination committee for the development of Dhubri district held a meet recently under the presidentship of Retired Principal of Bholanath College to discuss various problems that are plaguing Dhubri town including raising demand for an alternative road-cum-embankment from Dhubri to Gauripur along the Mora Gadadhar at Town Hotel conference hall here.
The members present spoke at a length on the demand of an alternative road from Dhubri to Gauripur and opined that this would not only protect Dhubri from perennial inundation during flood but also considerably reduce the traffic congestion on Guru Teg Bahadur Road and also serve as an embankment. “If the road-cum-embankment is constructed, Dhubri can get extended as a vast area which could then be used for various developmental purposes”, said a senior member of the committee, Biswajit Kalita while addressing the house.
The speakers also raised the demand for a fly-over at Shantinagar to ease the traffic congestion on Station Road, a proper sewerage to drain out the water from the drains of Dhubri town through the Mela Maidan area. Talking to The Sentinel, one of the senior members of the committee, Partha Pratim Ghose informed that they also discussed to move ASEB to install all the transformers of the town above the highest flood level. “ It was observed that during flood, power supply remains cut off due to inundation of transformers in Dhubri town. So we will soon meet Dhubri SDO and urge him to install the transformers above highest flood level”, Ghose added. The meeting was also addressed by former Minister, Nazubul Umar, Hasen Ali Sheikh, Tazmul Haque and others.
