Polling peaceful in Thowra LAC with 78.65 percent turnout

Polling was held in Thowra constituency in the first phase of the assembly polls on Saturday.

DEMOW: Polling was held in Thowra constituency in the first phase of the assembly polls on Saturday.

Thowra constituency in Sivasagar district has the lowest number of voters. There are 1,15,364 voters in Thowra constituency and among them 58,368 are males and 56,995 are females. There were six women polling stations set up in Thowra constituency this time.

Kushal Dowari, candidate of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of Thowra constituency, cast his vote in Mahkhuwabari in Bokota on Saturday morning. On the other hand, Sushanta Borgohain, INC candidate of Thowra constituency, cast his vote in 55 A No voting centre in Demow Town High School on Saturday morning.

Since early morning people were seen queuing up to cast their votes. Till the filing of this report, the polling percentage was 78.65 per cent turnout. The percentage of turnout is expected to increase as final report is awaited. No untoward incident was reported till the filing of this report in Thowra constituency.
