BONGAIGAON: Due to financial crisis, parents donated their child to another family and the father committed suicide. This incident took place in Uday Nagar of Bongaigaon town and Uttam Dey, a shopkeeper, is the victim in this incident. A family member of Uttam said that he had an electrical shop at Chapaguri road of Bongaigaon. "But due to the lockdown his business suffered. To maintain his family comprising his wife, daughter and son, he used to borrow money from several persons. He could not return the money on time due to which people used to come to his house demanding their money," a family member said.

On August 1, his wife gave birth to a child and the family plunged deeper into financial crisis. "Finally, they decided to donate the baby to another family. The eight-day old baby was handed over to the other family," a source said.

"Perhaps Uttam could not deal with this situation. Today his family members found him hanging and called the neighbours. But it was too late, he had already died. We called the police then," said local people.
