GOLAGHAT: As part of the State-wise protest, the contractual employees of Golaghat district appointed under Panchayat and Rural Development Department (P&RD) staged a protest on Tuesday in the respective development blocks to demand increase of salary and regularization of their jobs.
In this context, Panchayat and Rural Development Contractual Employees’ Council, Assam Morangi Block unit president and secretary Sanjay Pathak and Manuj Bora respectively, said that the P&RD had appointed people in various posts like Gram Rozgar Sahayak, Computer Assistant, Account Assistant, Gram Panchayat Coordinator, MIS manager and Accredited Engineer as contractual basis. Some of them have already completed more than 12 years of job service but till now the government has not regularized their jobs or provided them proper salary. The organization alleged that the government had deprived them by providing them a meagre amount in the name of monthly salary.
The organization demanded job regularization, monthly salary including grade pay, scale pay equal to permanent employees and facilities as provided to regular employees. The Panchayat and Rural Development Contractual Employees’ Council, Assam has declared a series of protests from October 1 to October 3 and October 10 and October 11 in support of their demands. The organization also threatened that if the government did not take any fruitful initiative, a massive protest would be carried out very soon.
Numaligarh: Along with different parts of the State, Assam P&RD (Panchayat & Rural Development Department) contractual employees of different Gaon Panchayats under Morangi Development Block, Golaghat went on a five-day strike from October 1 to October 3 and again from October 10 and 11, demanding action on certain policies.
All the contractual workers from 11 Gaon Panchayats under Morangi development block participated in the strike. Their demands are - to ensure regularization of their jobs, to provide salary equivalent (Grade Pay/ Scale Pay) to the other regularized employees until regularization of their jobs and to provide all other benefits which a regularized employee gets.
They also warned the government of indefinite strikes after October 14 if the government continued to ignore their demands.
