Preparation underway for annual convention of NFR Mazdoor Union

TINSUKIA: Brisk preparation is underway to hold 26th annual convention of Ledu branch of NFR Mazdoor Union (NFRMU) on July 15 at Ledu, known as the treasure trove of black diamonds at the foot of the Patkai Mountains and the last railway station in Indian railway map. The convention will be addressed by Ashish Biswas All India Railwaymen’s Federation (AIRF) Assistant General Secretary and Central General Secretary of NFRMU.

In a press release, Pulak Gogoi, the Central Assistant Secretary of NFRMU said he would visit Ledu together with national level railway labour leader Ashish Biswas and the two prominent labour leaders will attend the annual session with a day-long programme. Highlighting the significance of the place, Gogoi stated that The Assam Railway and Trading Company established the Lekhapani Railway Station and Ledu Station in 1882 to transport coal. While the last train was chugged off from Lekhapani on February 17, 1993, the country’s last World War II railway station was abandoned on August 22, 1993. Several hundred delegates and guests are expected to attend the gala event, the release added.
