President Praises Assam's Joha Rice, Appeals Universities To Support Branding And Marketing

On Saturday 26 February, President Ram Nath Kovind addressed the 19th Convocation in Tezpur University and spoke about various innovative solutions to local and national issues.

GUWAHATI: On his three-day-long visit to Assam, India's President Ram Nath Kovind today on Saturday 26 February addressed the 19th Convocation programme in the state Central University in Assam's Tezpur.

While addressing the convocation in Tezpur University the President has brought to light various developments and innovations at the local and national level through the university community.

He said that the university authorities and its students must make attempts in making Tezpur University a major hub of innovation.

The President focused on the promotion of agricultural products from Assam and praises Assam saying that the state has done a commendable job in preserving biodiversity.

On speaking about the unique quality of rice from Assam i.e. Joha rice, Kovind said that the universities across the state can help the farmers by popularizing, branding and marketing this special rice variety known for outstanding taste and aroma.

Kovind in his speech on Saturday urged the students of Tezpur University for encouraging community participation and use local resources so that they find solutions to deal with local and national issues.

He also stated that the scope of the university's engagement with different villages needs to be increased in the future. He says the state is gifted with extraordinary natural beauty which needs to be preserved.

He was happy to note regarding the renewable energy initiatives of the Tezpur University mainly in rural areas. He highlighted that conservation should be the watchword for all particularly the students.

He was also happy to note about the university receiving approval under the Prime Minister-Formalization of Micro Food Processing Enterprises Scheme for establishing a repining centre for the processing of jackfruit and cereals items.

In its initiative of making higher education more accessible, the government at the centre has decided to set up a Digital University that will provide world-class quality learning for students across India.

This proposed Digital University will give the facility of acquiring knowledge and education in ICT formats and different languages.

The President said that Tezpur University has become an active stakeholder in this central government's initiative by providing high-quality digital content in different Northeastern languages.

Kovind has urged the university to take its place among the top ten universities in NIRF (National Institutional Ranking Framework) rankings in the upcoming days.
