Primary school teachers in Kokrajhar demand early redressal of grievances

KOKRAJHAR: The primary teachers under the banner of Kokrajhar district All Bodo Primary Teachers' Association (ABPTA), on Monday staged two-hour sit-in in Titaguri and Dotma Block Elementary Education demanding solution of their genuine problems. The programme was part of the All Assam Primary Teachers' Association protest across Assam.

Talking to mediapersons, the president of the Kokrajhar district ABPTA, Dwimalu Basumatary said the teachers under the association joined the sit-in to demand solution to certain problems of primary teachers. He said the Department of Education, Assam assured the primary teachers to solve their problems in December, 2019 and there had been many discussions to find ways of solving these problems but nothing happened even after six months of the national lockdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Basumatary said the All Assam Primary Teachers' Association (AAPTA) had been demanding grade pay of head teachers and assistant teachers as per the 7th pay commission, regularization of all contractual teachers before implementation of National Education Policy, 2020 and providing all privileges and regularization of payment of teachers who are not getting regular salary, and provincialization of schools. Besides, they demanded appointment against vacant posts, continuation of old pension system and establishment of office of Deputy Inspector of Schools and posting of permanent Deputy Inspector of Schools.
