SILCHAR: Prof Parthankar Choudhury had been appointed as the president of the governing body (GB) of Cachar College. On Monday, Pomi Baruah, the Director of Higher Education had appointed Prof Choudhury, the Dean of Environmental Sciences of Assam University as the new GB president of the premiere college of the Barak Valley. Prof Choudhury in the past served Cachar College as a teacher.

Cachar College in the recent past has hit the headlines for reasons not suitable for an institution of its stature. The teaching faculties resorted to agitation against ‘dictatorship’ of the principal Prof Siddhartha Sankar Nath. Later, Nath was suspended by the DHE only to be reinstated a few months later. After resuming duty, Nath allegedly surpassed the then GB president Shashanka Sekhar Dhar. Two and half months back, Dhar, the vice president of the district BJP resigned from the post of the GB president. Finally Prof Choudhury, who is also an eminent environmentalist had been roped in for the post.
