Prof Sudip Dey passes away in Guwahati

Prof Sudip Dey, nationally acclaimed scientist and a fellow of Royal Society of Microscopy breathed his last at Guwahati

TINSUKIA: Prof Sudip Dey, nationally acclaimed scientist and a fellow of Royal Society of Microscopy breathed his last at Guwahati on Sunday while undergoing treatment for kidney ailment. He was 67. During his service at the Department of Sophisticated Analytical Instrumentation Facility (SAIF) formerly RSIC of NEHU Shillong, Dr Dey published more than 100 outstanding research papers and scholastic articles in national and international journals.

In electron microscopy he was pioneer and guided research scholars from educational institutions and universities of North East. A doyen in experimental research, he developed a new methodology in electron microscopy that was accepted by scientists across the globe and for which Royal Society of Microscopy London honoured him with the Fellow. An alumnus of Department of Zoology, NEHU Shillong, Dr Deyan amicable person was very supportive to research scholars. He leaves behind his wife and an advocate son besides a plethora of peer scientists across India. The NEHU Alumni Association of Zoology has deeply condoled his early demise and expressed sympathy to the bereaved family members.
