Kokrajhar: NEDAN Foundation, an NGO based in Kokrajhar-BTR, observed International Women's Day with the theme 'Each for Equal' with a day-long program. With great enthusiasm, more than 100 women and children from different corners of Kokrajhar district participated in the programme.
The program was organized in the presence of Principal of Law College, Kokrajhar, Preeta Brahma and Padmini Brahma, social activist. The program started with the lighting of the lamp by the invited guest and was followed by a welcome dance by the girls of Destination Girls' Home (DGH). Preeta Brahama spoke about the different constitutional provisions for the support and safeguard of the women. She said that there were various ways to earn a livelihood. "Every woman needs to take initiative to start something on her own and should do with full commitment," she said.
Padmini Brahma spoke on the topic 'Women and social entrepreneurship. She said that women were strong enough to stand on their own feet and do something for society.
Digambar Narzary, chairperson of NEDAN Foundation, spoke about women empowerment. Three women from different parts of Kokrajhar district shared their success stories in livelihood. This gave motivation to other women to earn maximum profit with minimum investment. They also thanked NEDAN Foundation for the livelihood support.
Degrw Basumatary, Rebeka Boro and Bebika Sheikh were awarded the 'Lady of the Year' (Bwswrari Aijw Banta)' award for their great success in the livelihood sector. The program ended with an action skit by girls of Destination Girls' Home (DGH), Anthaigwlao.
Tezpur: Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Sonitpur observed International Women's Day with the theme 'I am Generation Equality: Realizing Women's Rights' in collaboration with Napam Gaon Panchayat.
The program was inaugurated by Dr. Promod Ch Deka, Head, KVK, Sonitpur. In his inaugural speech, he explained the significance of the day and about the theme. The president of the Napam Gaon Panchayat, Morjina Begum in her speech expressed her gratitude to the field-level workers who were working for women empowerment.
Sangeeta Bora, State secretary, National Human Rights Protection Institute, explained about the steps to be taken for the protection of human rights. She also asked the women folk to come forward to take advantage of human rights. The importance of nutrition garden and 'Nutri Thali' in the human health was elaborately discussed by Arifa Momtaz Begum, Subject Matter Specialist (Community Science) of KVK, Sonitpur. The crops to be grown in the garden were explained by her and leaflets were also distributed among the participants.
Indrani Bora, a RAWEP student, discussed the layout of a nutrition garden. Naba Sarmah, secretary of CLF, Napam emphasized gender equality and the multidimensional role of women in the society. Sanjukta Saikia and Namita Dutta, SMS of KVK, Sonitpur took part in the interaction session. All the staff of KVK, Sonitpur and Napam Gaon Panchayat actively participated in the program. To encourage the women, KVK, Sonitpur felicitated some of the Anganwadi workers, ASHA workers and self-help group members under Napam Gaon Panchayat for their effort in the field of women empowerment.
The program was graced by the RAWEP students of Assam Agricultural University and more than 100 Anganwadi workers, ASHA workers, and self-help group members.
MORIGAON: International Women's Day was celebrated with fanfare by the Morigaon District Social Welfare department in association with the district administration in the Morigaon Circuit House conference hall on Sunday. Deputy Commissioner Rituraj Bora gave the inaugural speech in presence of ADC ST Rahman, DSWO Debajit Bora, CDPO Bidyut Hazarika, and CDPO Santush Kutum. Three prominent personalities – lecturer Ami Barthakur, social worker Rinarani Saikia and reporter Lipika Bora were felicitated by the Social Welfare Department for their contribution to society.
Besides, a plantation drive was also held. Earlier, the DC instructed DSWO, CDPOs, AWWs and both Poshan and PMMVY teams to make people aware of crime against women.
Sivasagar: NEST Foundation (National Educational Social and Traditional knowledge foundation) celebrated International Women's Day 2020 at ONGC Colony Sivasagar near Manas Mandir on Sunday. Speaking on the occasion, Dembi Ram Panging, vice-chairman of All India SC/ST Employees Welfare Association, ONGC, Assam Asset said that the women were called Janani. To create an enabled world they have to progress equally with men in the field of education, economics, and politics. He also appreciated the role of NEST Foundation led by PR Mili, chairperson of the foundation, which has been relentlessly trying to educate and empower the women fraternity on constitutional rights, eradication of superstition, social life and livelihood enhancement.
Apart from the celebration of Women's Day, an awareness program on Coronavirus preventive measures (COVID-19) was also conducted by the foundation. Taking part in the program, Dr. Ashim Khargharia, DGM, Medical Services, ONGC, Assam Asset said that preventive measures could protest people from being affected by the virus. So everybody should take care of not touching any unknown person or thing and avoiding social gatherings. Everybody should wash hands frequently. Suruj Kr Patiri, president of Mising Dirbi Kebang, Assam and Tulika Chetia Yein, secretary of ONGC Workers' Association, Sivasagar also spoke on the occasion.
