Prohibition week observed in Hailakandi

HAILAKANDI: Coinciding with the death anniversary of the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi, the Prohibition Week was observed here on Saturday. The week is observed with an objective to create public awareness against the use of intoxicants and drugs, stated a press release.

A function was held at Panchgram Town High School to caution people, particularly school students against the use of alcohol, drugs and other intoxicants, said in-charge, Superintendent of Excise-cum-Secretary, District Prohibition Committee, Surendra Nath Barman. Scores of students of the school and local people listened to the speakers on the negative impacts of narcotic drugs and other intoxicants on the society and urged them not to fall prey to these harmful drugs.

An oath-taking session was conducted where everybody vowed not to use any kind of intoxicants. An open quiz was organized based on the life and works of Mahatma Gandhi.

Inspector of Excise, Arif Ahmed, organizer, District Prohibition Committee, Manjur Ali Barbhuiya, Principal of the school, Abdul Shukur Chowdhury and other officials took part in the function.
