KOKRAJHAR: In a significant development, many projects are expected to come under United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in BTC region as the council leaders, led by Chief Executive Member (CEM) Pramod Boro, and officials of UNDP have reached a consensus to implement the projects.

A meeting between the representatives of Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) administration and UNDP was held at the BTC Secretariat conference hall on Thursday to discuss the projects under UNDP to come up in the region. The meeting was chaired by CEM of BTC, Pramod Boro and attended by John Borgoyary, Regional Head of UNDP, Northeast, Supriya Khound, project coordinator, Green Recovery, and Arjun Narzary, consultant.

The EMs, Secretaries and other officers of BTC, all CHDs of transfer departments were also present in the meeting on Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) under the UNDP to tie-up the projects in BTR. Under the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), the projects on no poverty, zero hunger, good health and well-being, quality education, gender equality, clean water and sanitation, affordable and clean energy, decent work and economic growth, industry innovation and infrastructure, reduced inequalities, sustainable cities and communities, responsible consumption and production, climate action, life below water, life in land, peace, justice and strong institutions and partnership for the goals will be funded and implemented under UNDP in BTR.

The council-level committee on SDG for BTR will be constituted very soon under the guidance of the chief of BTC and Regional Head of UNDP. The sustainable development goals were adopted in September, 2015 by the United Nations General Assembly with 193 countries as signatories. The 17 goals which aim at leaving no-one behind, need to focus not only on policy restructuring but developing capacities at the local level to understand needs and deliver services to all communities and people.
