Proposing additional departments, Tezpur University Vice Chancellor calls on UGC chairman

The Vice Chancellor (VC) of Tezpur University (TU), Prof. Shambhu Nath Singh on Wednesday paid a visit to the Chairman of the University Grants Commission (UGC), Prof. M Jagadesh Kumar in New Delhi.

TEZPUR: The Vice Chancellor (VC) of Tezpur University (TU), Prof. Shambhu Nath Singh on Wednesday paid a visit to the Chairman of the University Grants Commission (UGC), Prof. M Jagadesh Kumar in New Delhi. The meeting served as an opportunity to discuss various aspects of higher education and future roadmap of the University.

During the meeting, Prof. Singh highlighted that keeping in mind the University mandate and preparing itself for holistic implementation of National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 in the University, there is a need for programmes advocating Multidisciplinary, Interdisciplinary and Transdisciplinary courses/subjects/curriculum. He also informed the UGC Chairman that the Academic Council and Board of Management, the highest executive body of the University, has ratified a proposal to establish thirteen (13) new Departments, such as Pharmaceutical Sciences, Petroleum Technology, Tourism Management, Yoga and Sports Science, Economics, Statistics, Psychology, Library and Information Science etc. Further, Prof. Singh also requested the Chairman to convert the existing Teaching Learning Centre, which is conducting various capacity building programs in higher education to UGC- Human Resource Development Centre in view of implementation of NEP 2020.

The Chairman assured UGC’s commitment to provide necessary resources and support to Tezpur University for its growth and academic excellence.
