Protest against Citizenship Amendment Act; Draft Environmental Impact Assessment

TINSUKIA: The Tinsukia district committee of Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuva Chatra Parishad (AJYCP, in collaboration with regional committees of Tinsukia, Doomdooma and Margherita, brought out a motorcycle rally in protest against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) and draft of Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) on Monday.

Led by Kon Gogoi, organizing secretary central committee, Surajit Moran and Kanchan Bora, president and secretary of Tinsukia district committee, the activists vowed to continue the agitation till the controversial CAA and EIA draft were scrapped. More than 300 activists of AJYCP across the district participated in the rally.

GOLAGHAT: AJYCP Golaghat district committee on Monday took out a bicycle rally throughout Golaghat town in protest against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act and draft Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), 2020. Almost 100 activists took part in the protest programme. They shouted various slogans against the Central Government as well as the Sarbananda Sonowal-led State Government. The president and secretary of Golaghat AJYCP, Abdul Hasim and Nikunja Medhi, said that the AJYCP would never accept the controversial CAA as well as the draft Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), 2020. The CAA would destroy the geographical identity of the people of Assam. The CAA was a ploy of the Centre to destroy the identity of the greater Assamese society, they said. The draft EIA notification, 2020 was a serious threat to the environment of the north-eastern region, they added. They demanded withdrawal of CAA as well as the proposed draft EIA.
