LAKHIMPUR: The guardians of the youths who were attacked on September 3 while holding a booth committee meeting of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Marcha (BJYM) at Luitporiya High School under Kherkota Gaon Panchayat of Dhakuakhana LAC, and the people living under Kherkota, Matmora and Dimaruguri Gaon Panchayats staged a massive protest against the alleged hooliganism by Ganashakti Party on Saturday.
Notably on that day, five youths who were the booth committee activists of the BJYM were attacked by a gang of 10 to 15 people, equipped with sharp weapons. The gang also vandalized the chairs and tables and other furniture of the school. During the attack, Yuva Marcha activists named Bijesh Doley, Ranoj Doley, Bibek Doley, Riten Morang and Pabitra Doley sustained injuries at hands, legs and head. BJP, which is in alliance with the Sanmilita Gana Shakti, Asom (SGSA), itself alleged that the attackers were the supporter of the alliance party.
Protesting against the attack, the guardians of the injured youths and the people living under the aforementioned Gaon Panchayats assembled at the Dhakuakhana public field and took out a protest rally marching towards the Circle Officer office of the Dhakuakhana Revenue Circle. The protesters rocked the environment by shouting various slogans against SGSA and by displaying placards against the hooliganism of its supporter while taking out the rally.
Then the guardians of the injured youths submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal through the CO of the Dhakuakhana Revenue Circle Apurba Kumar Nath demanding legal punishment to those who were involved in non-democratic violence growing under the Kherkota Gaon Panchayat area. Through the same memorandum, the protesters also demanded to ensure strict administrative system to bring back peaceful situation to the area by controlling the tensed political environment, to set up police outpost at Bakulguri and Bebejiya, to initiate stringent action against the political 'mafiaraj' active at Pub Dhakuakhana, Matmora, Kherkota, Dimaruguri, Dangdhora, Borshamukh, Subansiri, Bilmukh and Bhimpora Gaon panchayats in order strengthen democratic values and to rebuild a peaceful situation free from terror.
