TANGLA: The former members of the disbanded National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB), under the name and banner of Ex- NDFB United Forum, staged a protest at Udalguri on Wednesday to demand unconditional release of its chairman, DR Nabla alias Ranjan Daimary, along with withdrawal of criminal cases of all the former members of the outfit and their release from all the district jails.
Talking to mediapersons, a female protester said, "It is a matter of great dismay that Ranjan Daimary, one of the key signatories of the 3rd Bodo Peace Accord, along with a number of other former members of the outfit are languishing in jail." "We want to make a fervent appeal to the Home and Political Department of State Government to initiate measures for their unconditional release and take up rehabilitation measures as per the clauses of the pact," she added.
Pertinently, the 3rd Bodo peace Accord which brought the curtain down on over three decades of insurgency in the Bodo belt, did not have a clause for general amnesty to the founder chairman of the disbanded outfit, D R Nabla alias Ranjan Daimary. It incorporated a clause for withdrawal of non-heinous crimes of its members.
