Dibrugarh: The circulation of a video on social media showing a policeman, who was later identified as a home guard named Sanjay Gohain, using his position to brazenly collect extortion money from some fish traders in Lahoal has deeply shocked the people here. Although as per sources, Gohain alias Rubul was later suspended from his duty and accordingly arrested by the Lahoal Police under charges of robbery under Section 392 of the IPC, public was left dumbfounded at the complete nonchalance with which Gohain was exerting pressure on the traders, ranting threats and taking unwarranted advantage of his position near the Lahoal Police Station, where he is believed to have been posted. The people here in general wondered whom to approach seeking protection from goons in times of need if this was the status quo.
